I told a friend today that I'd rather have my two novels remain unpublished than get myself into a bad publishing deal. When I was younger, I never would have thought that way.

I also like being bolder than I once was. In Texas, women cared all the time about looks, manners, and men thinking of them as "nice." When I got to the D, I wore more make-up than most (in high school, I got demerits on drill team for not wearing enough Mary Kay -- seriously) and it was a whole different deal. Nobody cared what anyone thought of them which was a huge relief. Getting older helped tremendously as well, realizing that it won't be the first or last time I look the fool. I still love costumes, but I've dropped the mask. In Texas, the women were hyper concerned with manners, looks, and being thought of as "nice." When I got to the D, it was a whole different deal. Suddenly, I wore more make-up than most (in Texas, I got demerits on drill team for not wearing enough make-up -- seriously) and nobody cared about men liking them. And getting older helped tremendously as well. I love not thinking so much about being a fool -- as I know, it won't be the first or last time. I love costumes, but I don't feel obligated to wear the mask anymore. Big difference.Michelle's Spellhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15769666862403600253noreply@blogger.com
